Tyrant, the character, exists primarily within the context of the 2014 FX television drama series, Tyrant. He is not a standalone film character.

The series centers around Bassam "Barry" Al-Fayeed, the younger son of the dictator of the fictional Middle Eastern nation of Abbudin. Barry, played by Adam Rayner, is a pediatrician living in Los Angeles who reluctantly returns to his homeland after a twenty-year absence with his American family to attend his nephew's wedding.

Barry's homecoming thrusts him back into the complex and dangerous world of his family's rule, forcing him to confront his past and grapple with the political turmoil engulfing Abbudin. He becomes increasingly involved in the power struggles and ethical compromises that define his family's reign. While initially resistant, Barry eventually becomes deeply entangled in the machinations of power and even attempts to reform the government, blurring the lines between savior and the "tyrant" he once despised.
